Cakes

I've had a few requests to post pictures of birthday cakes I have made. I am missing both Ava and Jack year one, and for Jack's 3rd birthday we were in Minneapolis for Uncle Andy and Aunt Alisa's wedding, and I didn't make a cake. Here are the rest:

Ava, year 2 (she loved dogs even then)

Ava, year 3

Jack year 2, obviously Elmo

Ava year 4, Backpack

Jack year 4, spider birthday

Ava year 5

Jack year 5 , shark party

Ava year 6, Littlest Pet Shop begins

Ava had two cakes that year. One for home and one for her birthday party. Both Littlest Pet Shop of course!

Jack year 6, crabs and snorkeler

Ava year 7, Littlest Pet Shop dog (again)

Jack year 7, pizza cake

Ava year 8, she just wanted flowers

Ava year 9, puppy cupcakes (sorry about the picture quality)

Last days of summer

While Mat's mom was here visiting we decided to go to the Sawtooth Ridge Berry Fields near Indian Heaven Wilderness in Washington. We parked our car and went hunting.

We looked and looked for the Huckleberry; but the fields were filled with this berry, the Sitka Mountain Ash. A favorite of the grosbeak, but bitter and probably not very good in a pie. We continued to search.

Ava and Jack found an adorable Christmas tree.

Finally, we found the elusive huckleberry.

It was a very slow-going process...
perhaps this explains the empty container.
We picked, and picked, and picked,
and picked.
until our fingers were bloody (ok, maybe not bloody) and we had enough for a pie.

This is the view of Mt. Adams we had while picking.
