The other day, we bought a new book for the kids,
Birds of the Willamette Valley. Ava has been crazy studying the book, so this morning we went to Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge (
conveniently located in our neighborhood) to locate and identify birds. Jack was on board and excited for the hike. We encountered a man who was very knowledgeable about the birds in Oaks Bottom. He helped us identify a few birds with which we were having difficulty. He wore a hat that labeled him, BIRD NERD.

We started looking for birds.

The serious birder.

We had a lot of fun, but Jack was getting sick of the birds.

We knew it was time to leave.
